Quality - Reliability – Speed

Interpreting:

The process of understanding and analyzing an oral message in the source language, and then transfer the message into the target language either consecutively or simultaneously in a faithful fashion.

Consecutive Interpreting:

The complex activity in which the interpreter first listens to the verbal message, in varying length, then analyses and memorizes it, possibly with the aid of notes, and consequently converts the message into the target language.

Conversation Interpreting:

This is the consecutive interpretation of a brief conversation between speakers who do not understand each other's languages.

Simultaneous Interpreting:

This is the complex activity in which the interpreter listens through headphones to a verbal message in the source language, then analyses and memorizes the message and then interprets it through a microphone.

Whispered Interpreting:

Simultaneous interpreting without the use of any appliances, in sotto voce (soft and restrained whispering) for one or at most a few listeners.

Personal interpreting:

In this case the interpreter is present in person at the interview or in an interpreters’ cabin. He simultaneously provides the communication between two or more speakers who do not understand each other's languages. This is most often done consecutively or whispered, but also sometimes through other ways of interpreting.

Telephone Interpreting:

The interpreter consecutively interprets by telephone by means of a specially equipped service or a private phone and provides communication between speakers who do not understand each other's languages.

Videophone Interpreting:

This is a hybrid form of video and telephone interpreting, at which the interpreter is not directly present but provides communication between speakers who do not understand each other's languages. The interpreter interprets consecutively or simultaneously, using images and sound from a specially equipped service – the so-called ‘sender’ – to one or more similar equipped services or persons – the so-called ‘receiver’.

Relay interpreting:

A form of interpreting from one language into another, but through a third common language between interpreters themselves, for example, from Swahili through French into Dutch, etc.

Triad:

A typical interpreting situation in which the interpreter strives to keep a conversation going as efficiently and optimally as possible, by any means of communication, between the parties involved.
